The Host Article: Secrets from The Host movie!!!

If anda haven't seen the movie yet and are anxious to know everything anda possibly can about it, here is a daftar I put together of fun facts from the movie:

#1: Mel and Jared have sex. If you've seen some of the clips for the movie, anda already know this. (If anda haven't seen the clips yet, check out the one called "Campfire Kiss.") But Mel and Jared sleep together while they're on the run from the Souls, which isn't something that they do in the book.

#2: This is still open to discussion, but Ian's character is really underdeveloped. In the book, his relationship with Wanda takes a lot of time to develop and grow and sprout into romance. But in the movie, it's like he wants to kill her one day, and then ciuman her the next. The O'Wanda relationship really doesn't have a lot of room to develop. They fall in cinta very quickly, hard and fast and without warning. It kind of makes their romance feel unrealistic and unbelievable--but maybe that's just me.

#3: Walter didn't make it into the movie. Stephenie Meyer (the penulis of The Host) has already mentioned this in an interview, so anda might already know this. Walter's not even in the movie at all. anda never hear his name atau anything. He just simply doesn't exist. And there were a lot of other minor characters that got cut as well.

#4: There's definitely some humor sprinkled in throughout the movie. It wasn't like they turned The Host into a comedy atau anything, but the film totally had its moments.

#5: There's a lot of changes from the book. I mean, it's obvious that the movie can't follow the book exactly, but there actually a LOT of changes. I suppose there was nothing major that was changed, but I'm sure I wasn't the only person shocked to see how much they deviated from the book.

#6: Jamie's so freaking ADORABLE! I guess we all knew that already, but my jantung just melted whenever he came on screen. The actor who plays him (Chandler Canterbury) is actually fourteen years old, but he seems much younger in the movie. And he has an excellent way of tugging on the audiences' heartstrings, especially in emotional scenes with Wanda/Melanie.

#7: Here's an interesting bit of information for you: Ian and Wanda ciuman a total of four times in the movie, while the count for Jared and Mel is five times. Simply said, it's a whole lot of making out to selai into two hours worth of film, but I'm sure all of the females in the audience were pleased.

#8: The actress who plays Melanie (Saoirse Ronan) got an Oscar nomination at the young age of thirteen for her role in the movie Atonement. However, I don't think she'll be earning another nomination for The Host. To me, her akting was a little crummy. There were times in the movie when she didn't sell the scene right atau her character seemed really unrealistic. I guess this is my own personal opinion, but there were lots of other people who agreed with me in the movie theater--there was one scene in particular where the whole audience just started laughing out loud because Ronan's akting was so terrible and dumb. And I have to say it honestly was.

pwooden #1 - The book doesn't say Mel and Jared had sex, but it implies it. Mel was with Jared before she was captured long enough to have turned 18, which was what they were waiting for, and after Wanderer's first dream about Jared, she reached over in the bed to touch Jared like Mel remembered doing and was sad to find him not there. #2 - It was a 600+ page book turned into a 125 minute movie. Everything moved too fast. #3 - In case you didn't notice, Sharon and Sunny also didn't make it into the movie. #4 - I like that about Stephenie; it breaks up the drama. They did leave out some of my favorites, though, like after Jared punched the half-drowned Kyle and Doc told him that was not good for his condition and Jared replied "Yeah, but it made me feel better." #5 - Andrew Niccol, the screenwriter/director is used to writing his own material, but he did consult with Stephenie on all the changes, and she actually thought some were better than the original. Also, I think they tried hard to make this film more guy-friendly to reach a broader audience. This must have worked, because I saw a couple of guys at the opening show who came alone to see the film.

Twilight1108 @pwooden, yes many of the things you said are correct, but there may be a few more things to take into perspective. #1: Yes, you would be correct here. However, they DO go against the book because in the movie Mel and Jared have sex when Mel is only 17. They basically take the love scene in chapter 8 of the book and change how it plays out; instead of Jared rejecting Mel's offer to sleep with her, he accepts it. #2: Yeah, I think everybody could agree with that. But I still think the director could have focused on their relationship more. He could've developed the movie better, even with the time limitations he had. Of course, this is just my opinion, so you may or may not agree with me here. #3: I did notice that, but Walter was one of the more important characters, whereas Sharon and Sunny had fairly small roles in the book. And, actually, a lot of other characters were missing from the movie as well, like Candy. #4: Haha, yeah. Andrew (screenwriter) added in some of his own jokes as well, like when Wanda puts the chair against the door so the Souls couldn't open it and Melanie goes, "No, the other way!" LOL. #5: I've heard Stephenie mention this before in several different interviews, but I was still shocked at all the changes they made. I knew there would be some, but I didn't expect so many. I suppose all of the changes were beneficial to the movie in some way or another, but I still wish they had followed the book at least a little more.

Britney_Fan @pwooden Sharon was in the movie. Shes like the only redhead. she was walking with maggie at one point but its like for two secs and she didnt have any lines

FlightofFantasy Which scene made the audience laugh? I thought Ronan's acting was okay, nothing special, but okay. I'm curious as to which of her scenes made everyone laugh.

Twilight1108 @FlightofFantasy, it was the scene towards the end of the movie where Doc is about to take Wanderer out of Melanie's body. The audience was laughing when Mel was telling Wanda about how much she'd miss her and how she thought of her as a sister.

bananutoffee Walter's death would have taken away a major chunk out of the two hours of the movie. And Saoirse Ronan isn't that bad an actress at all. In fact, the goodbye when Wanderer is taken out is somehow more substantial in words and more sentimental. Good thing the crowd I watched the movie has more consideration for the sad part. But that scene after Kyle tried to murder Wanda and Jred told Ian to stay away? When Wanda went to Ian in the fields, she reminded him of that. Then somebody in the cinema went, "You approached him!" Then everybody laughed.

DomoDefends did anyone else notice that the dent in the pavement made by her head when she fell from the balcony is the exact same dent on the face of the earth when the the camera zooms out towards the end? If so can anyone shed some light on this? what does it mean?
