The Color Purple follows the life of Celie Johnson as she struggles through life in the early 1900s. The film begins with Celie about 14 years old, giving birth to her detik child, a boy, for her father, her first being a girl. Her father takes the detik child away from her and tells her never to tell anyone about it but God. Time passes and a local farmer, "Mister", comes oleh to marry Celie's younger, prettier sister, Nettie. Her father refuses to let Nettie marry and gives the man Celie instead. Celie has no choice but to pack her things and go with Mister. Upon arrival at his home, one of his children takes a brick and pelts it injuring Celie's forehead badly. Later on, whilst Celie is combing one of Mister's daughter's hair and she squeals, he tells Celie to shut her up. Celie responds oleh saying she cant, it hurts her, Mister slaps Celie for answering him back. Mister neglects and abuses Celie until Nettie comes oleh asking to stay with them, because the father can't keep his hands off her. Mister likes this because all along he wanted Nettie. When Mister is unable to lure Nettie, he sends her away, leaving Celie lebih distraught than ever. Nettie promises to write unless death keeps her from it, but Celie never receives a letter. It is suspected that Mister hides them from her. Meanwhile, Mister's lover, Shug Avery, comes to visit and befriends Celie, helping her to understand that she is lebih than Mister's servant. When Shug arrives and sees Celie, the first thing she says to Celie is, "YOu sure is ugly." Celie and Shug develop a closely knit relationship with each other. One could say a deeply personal sister one atau a one where the two cinta each other intimately. After bernyanyi at a club Shug begins to tampil Celie that she doesnt know about cinta and she is still a virgin. Celie tells her to not leave her because when she's gone Mister will beat her for not being Shug. She then tells Shug that all Mister does is climb ontop of her like a toilet, does his stuff then gets off, with her feeling no stirred emotion inside her. Shug then demonstrates to Celie how it feels to be kissed and kisses her on her lips to prove the great sensation she has missed out for so many years. That is when the intimate relationship begins between them. The movie culminates in Celie leaving Mister with the threat that everything he touches will fall apart until he does right oleh her. Mister finds compassion and goes to the INS to help Celie's sister Nettie prove that she is a US citizen and return from Africa where she has been living with Celie's two children who had been diberikan to a missionary and his wife. Celie is reunited with Nettie and her two children in a heartfelt ending to an extraordinary film.
