This is the Institute in Brooklyn. It is an old gothic cathedral that is run by the Lightwoods. The Lightwoods live in the Institute full time but others can live there if they are approved to by the Lightwoods. Only Shadowhunters can open the doors.

The demon cautiously made his way over to where the man's voice had previously been before he got up to get the mattress. "This...is your bed, right?" he asked as he reached a piece of furniture and felt the wooden boards of it.

The demon tried relaxed some, knowing, or at least thinking, that Vik wasn't going to hurt him; that Elizabeth hadn't been lying to him about it and that he was going to be safe until he healed.
