Capcom has seen success with releasing remastered versions of
. Since they apparently can’t be bothered with releasing a new installment of the franchise, they are going to give us even more remastered games. This time, it will be versions of
for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you’re excited about this announcement, it might be best to keep that enthusiasm in check, as the games will not be released in that order.
For whatever reason (probably money), Capcom is releasing each game separately instead of bundling them together. The first game out of the gate will be
, which will release on March 29. After that,
will see release sometime during the summer, followed by
(i.e. the game everyone actually wants to play) during the fall. Each game will cost $19.99 and be available digitally worldwide, with physical copies also being available in America. All of the games (
specifically) will have all of their post-launch DLC included.
The ports don’t appear to have many gigantic graphical improvements other than a higher frame rate. These are essentially straight ports of the original titles.
has been re-released so many times now that it’s comical, while
are getting re-released for the first time (not including their PC ports).
It’s a bit disappointing that instead of releasing a brand new
game, Capcom is celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary by picking through the bones of the series. But: who knows? Maybe the success of these remasters will compel Capcom to actually put the work in to creating a brand-new game and truly give fans what they deserve.
