My grandparents would call a late lunch or a light dinner "supper". Sometimes if we had really big meals at lunch time they would call that "dinner". (ie, if we ate for Christmas around noon, they would still call that dinner.)

I was told that one means the biggest meal of the day and the other means the last meal of the day. I can't remember which one was which though.
