Well, DUH! How many animated Disney movies do you know that talk about sex, lust, and have an old pervert sniffing a young woman's hair?

Kids aren't supposed to watch this one.

It has some mature themes and I'd consider it sorta dark for a Disney animation.
But @Sparkles ofc kids can still watch it lmao. The themes are handled in a way that kids can watch just fine, nothing is explicit. However most kids generally don't appreciate or enjoy this film until they're a bit older.

@Zeppie: They can watch it but I'm not sure they can understand the story well.

Just watched the movie just now. I got to appreciate it so much more xD As a kid, I didn't really like the movie, but now, it's pretty awesome actually lol. The "love" song kinda felt a little longish tho :P We get it okay! xD
But yeah, heavy religious stuff, attempted infanticide, etc. It is pretty dark.
Also, the movie's ending just reminds me of The Lion King.
You know, it had the fire, the protagonist on the cliff about to plummet into the fire, and the antagonist falling off.
A little different, but similar enough to draw the connections lol.
