im learning about that right now.
okay, so there was this guy named Santa Anna who was dictator of Mehico(scary, huh) and he was taking weapons from everybody, and then he got to the Alamo (a mission in Texas) to take their cannon. the people there were like, "come and take it" (they wouldn't give it without a fight) so they have this battle and Santa Anna lost (embarrassing losing to a bunch of hillbilly 'Texians')
before all this, the Texian leaders met in Washington, Texas, and they drew up a declaration of independence from Mexico, announcing they would no longer be governed oleh Mexico. Sam Houston was the temperary president, and the commander of the army. after the fall of the Alamo, Sam and his army launched a suprise attack at San Jacinto on the Mexicans as they were having an afternoon siesta. The Texans won a great victory and the whole war came to an end. they forced Santa Anna to sign a treaty.
They asked Congress to become a state, but northerners opposed it because it would become a slave state, and they were against slaves. the southerners liked it, because they liked having slaves and all that crap. but in the end, Congress turned them down. Texas remained an independent country for the selanjutnya 10 years, atau something like that. It was known as the "Lone bintang Republic" because it's flag had one star.
After many heated debates, Texas was finally admitted to the union and became the 28th state.
Mexico was angered oleh this. The U.S and Mexico argued about what the boundaries were between southern Texas and Mexico. This will soon lead to the Mexican War of 1846.
:) History is the only class i pay attention in.
