Marilyn can be appreciated on almost any level anda want to appreciate her - physically, sexually, emotionally, intellectually, psychologically, historically, etc. She was such a complex and fascinating woman who accomplished a great deal despite many obstacles - she became a sex symbol in a time of sexual repression, rose to prestige from humble beginnings, improved drastically despite deep insecurities, became knowledgeable and self-educated despite a lack of formal education, developed a shrewd toughness despite her prior naivete and lack of experience, maintained a sense of honesty despite working in an illusion-based profession, created a fantasi persona despite a much darker reality, was the first woman to challenge a major studio on the grounds of artistic freedom as well as the first to establish a production company, despite being a mere sex symbol during a time when women had limited rights, etc, etc, etc.
The fact that Marilyn did all this and was still flawed, insecure, and made mistakes makes her all the lebih human to her fans. And that is what we admire above all - her humanity.
