CaptainSwan & SwanFire: Is a Truce Possible?

I'm sure many people know I ship CaptainSwan, but I will try to keep this artikel as unbiased as possible and will enter a mental neutral zone.

It's unfortunate, but I see a lot of negative encounters between SwanFire shippers and CaptainSwan shippers. lebih negative than positive, too. Can this be changed? I think so. How? Respect.

But to clarify on what's respectful and what's disrespectful, here are some examples:

Respectful

"I think Neal and Emma would make a good couple because they have similar backgrounds and they've been through a lot."

"I don't think Emma and Neal would make a good couple because there's too much pain between them and it would be an unhealthy relationship."

"I think Emma and Hook would make a better couple because Hook would cinta her unconditionally and I think he understands Emma better than Neal does."

Those are respectful ways of stating your thoughts.

Disrespectful

"SwanFire is so stupid!"

"CaptainSwan is unnecessary!"

"EWW, ____ is gross!

Those are disrespectful ways of stating your opinion. *I included a blank one because this isn't exclusive to CaptainSwan and SwanFire*

Sometimes even positive and mature posts can receive negative responses. In those cases, just try to be as respectful as possible. Say something like "I disagree because..." atau even just leave it at "I disagree". Some people are far too stubborn to reason with, so it's good to recognize when to agree to disagree and walk away.

Some of anda may be thinking "Well I won't be respectful until they are", and that's not good. If anda think that, that won't get anyone anywhere. It has to start with you. anda may have a stream of nasty komentar that anda want to say running through your mind that just want to explode through your fingers and onto the computer screen, but knowing to refrain yourself and keeping things respectful even if someone is disrespecting anda says a lot about your character.

Am I perfect? No. I'm very capable of agreeing to disagree, but my biggest downfall is not being able to walk away when I see disrespectful komentar about Hook and CaptainSwan.

What this all comes down to is acknowledging that everyone has a right to their own opinion and that anda don't have to agree with it. And it's okay if anda atau others don't agree. The big thing about respect is knowing that it's okay to agree to disagree and acknowledging that not everyone is going to agree with your opinion, but that doesn't make them wrong. Just like it doesn't make anda wrong for having a different opinion.

anda may hate cinta triangles, but that's what the writers have gone with and all any of us can do is see where they go with it. If you're confident that your ship is endgame, then there isn't any need to bash another ship. But there shouldn't ever be a reason to bash another ship. Every ship has as much right to exist as yours does. And I think that if everyone can just respect the boundaries and understand that we all have a right to have our own opinion, we can coexist peacefully.

Evilregal14 I personally don't think either of them will be canon, obviously I hope that she chooses Neal but since she doesn't remember any of them anything could happen. If Emma and Henry didn't remember ANYTHING it would be tragic. Right now both ships haven't got a lot of chance of being canon but we shall see.

thisisme365 This is an article that EVERYONE needs to read, whether we ship Swanfire, Captain Swan, or anyone else. We can agree and disagree, but still act mature. We can happily coexist as an OUAT community :)

Persephone713 Well Said. On a side note, its in my own opinion that the writers just stuck Hook and Emma upon us, its from a viewing stand point, not just a shipping stand point. I would say that even if I didnt ship her and Neal. I didnt like that they went this route, I thought and think its a little poor story telling, because yes I have been involved in other pop culture triangles and they always end up like this. MESSY, AND POINTLESS. Harry Potter is one example. I LOVE HP, I cant tell you how many yrs, I had to listen to " Ron and Hermione" or " Harry and Hermione". It wasnt as bad as the Team Jacob or Team Edward ( glad I never liked Twilight). But If we see an opinon about who we want Emma with may it be best to say nothing or as little as possible. I respect homosexual relationships so, I can even see her with Regina. So we can all agree to be more respectful, including myself. Im sorry.

101musastella Agreed. Mainly the Swanfire shippers always insult the Captain Swan shippers. At least just typed "I disagree with your opinion." And I saw Captain Swan shippers insult the Swanfire shippers. C'mon, poeple! Be nice!!

matchesrulezu Thanks, guys. This was just something I was thinking about yesterday and I felt like it needed to be said. Hopefully it can help change the tide. It just astonishes me how much hate there is. I've said some things and in a completely respectful manner, and still received hateful comments and all I could wonder is "Why?". It's just all pointless, you know? Sure, my opinion may be different, but why do I have to be hated for it? Especially over something related to a TV show. It's not like I'm saying I condone slavery or any kind of abuse. All I do is ship CaptainSwan. That's it. @thisisme365 - Thanks! I love cats, haha. Do they have a cat fan page on this site? @Persephone173 - I understand that and I'm not even really a huge fan of love triangles. It is something that's done a lot and sometimes it can really get out of hand (like that ridiculous Team Edward/Team Jacob rivalry. I know what I said about name calling, but that was ridiculous and you can't convince me otherwise. lol), but I know I can't spend my time hating it because I could hate it with the passion of 10000000000000 suns and it still wouldn't make a difference. As for the Emma and Hook thing, judging just by the scenes the writers have given them, I am convinced that the writers are as interested in the CaptainSwan potential as we (CS shippers) are. But like I said, we each have a right to our own opinion and perspective has a lot to do with it. Everyone perceives things differently and forms their opinions based on those perceptions. :)

Diamond_Queen OMG thanks for this article!! :D Everyone seriously needs to calm down. This CS and SF fights are getting ridiculous and are one of the fights with more hate I've seen... We should all be able to have a friendly debate. In this case of ship war, I don't care anyomore actually cuz I dont' love or dislike extremely either of them. But it is so annoying, especially when people say another ship is disgusting or makes them want to vomit or they don't get how any person whose not insane could ship them or stuff like that. I've heard a lot of people insult Rumbelle (which is a ship I'm really crazy about) and it does make me feel offended. CS, SF and especially SQ also are ones which get constantly called those things. I think we should all just try to express our opinions friendly and be able to walk away from a debate when we feel we're about to explote and actually turn it into a fight.

Ariee I don't like when someone said one ship bash more than the other because for me, it's the reverse... Since the beginning of season 3, I saw the triangle war starting on youtube.. It's awful, I'm afraid that will become like the triangle war in TVD. Omg, the worst is when I said I prefer Swanfire, someone reply me and said she was sorry for me, blah blah blah, like if it was insane to ship Swanfire --' The problem it's because of those shipper who can't accept other opinion, I start to hate the other ship like that happen in TVD with Delena and Klaroline. They shouldn't make a triangle love. Particulary one girl and two boys....

merdziiikaa I couldn't agree more with what was said in this article. I seriously don't understand why some people have the constant urge to write hurtful things about other ships. I love almost all the ships (there are some that I don't understand, don't care about or can't see them canon) and as much as I don't have such a strong opinion anymore on SwanFire or Captain Swan I still respect them. I'm kind of seeing Hook with Tinkerbell more now lately. xD Anyway, I just hope that Emma makes a choice that will bring her happiness. :)

matchesrulezu @Ariee - Well that's another perspective thing. We're all on a ship that gets bashed by someone in some form or another. So from our perspective, because we see the direct hate, it feels like we're hated on more than others. It's sad that someone made you feel like something was wrong with you because you ship Swanfire. It's like I said, having a different opinion doesn't make you wrong and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. You have as much right to your opinion as I do to mine. Some people can't respect that, unfortunately. :/ @Merdziiikaa - As for Hook and Tink, I don't personally see it. I see them more as good friends. Tink can definitely see the feelings Hook has for Emma and I even think she's kind of proud of Hook for finding love and finding the courage to give up his quest for revenge. And I think she can see that Emma is bringing out a better side of him. But that's what I see between Hook and Tink at the present time, though I am curious to find out how Tink got to Neverland in the first place.

carrieicecream I very much agree with this article. I hate when people get mean and rude over a ship. It's JUST AN IMAGINARY COUPLE ANYWAY. I'm a huge Captain Swan shipper, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. It doesn't affect my life as much as I'd like to think, since neither Emma or Hook are real people (as much as I wish they were). So yeah, hateful comments are pointless and they just need to stop. Thank you, matchesrulezu, for writing this article that all shippers need to see.

minervadawn Just needed to say thanks. This fandom needs more of this kind of thing. Anti-ships serve no purpose and can be very destructive. Just ship what you love and let others do the same. One of the biggest things I think people need to understand is: You can say that you don't understand a ship but don't say that a ship doesn't make sense or is stupid or that "you don't see how anyone could ship __". There are people out there to whom the ship makes perfect sense and you are devaluing there opinion by saying this. Instead say "I never really understood it" or "it never made sense to me". Just something I thought I should add.

matchesrulezu What? How? As long as it's not being stated like it's a fact, I don't see how it's rude. The example was worded in a manner that stated it as an opinion. Saying "Oh my god it's so stupid. You would have to be blind to not see that it would be an unhealthy relationship" would be rude.

matchesrulezu Well I wouldn't mean it as an offense. I do believe it would be, but that is just my opinion. I formed it off of thinking about real relationships and how they really work. Though this is also a TV show and things on it aren't realistic. So on OUaT it may not be unhealthy, but if it were a real world situation, I do believe it would be. I was in an unhealthy relationship, so I know what they look like. But this is just my opinion and I'm not trying to convince you that I'm right. It's just my perspective, and I'm not trying to offend you.
