introductionL:What I am about to tell you, is 100% true. Native Americans agreed to share the land with the newcomers, but they wanted more

The ORIGIONAL people did not believe in physically owning anything, they belived that everything anda had could be shared. No one could take anything from you. But the Europeans did not respect their values, beliefs, atau culture. Instead, they believed that if anda didn't believe in god, anda didn't have a real religeon. This of course, is Not true
The Canadian Government made treaties with the Natives so that they could still live on their homeland and they had certain rights to it. They called it the Indian act.
But we both signed the treaties, saying that we could SHARE the land and that the Natives could continue their origional way of life. This did not happen.

The government put the poor Native Americans on reservations, meaning they had to stay there, while they had all the rest of the land. This means that not but a tahun after they signed the treaties with us, they had already violated it.
Not much later after the treaties were signed, the Government made it mandatory to put your children in residential schools, where they would learn to read, write...And become dark-skinned christians.

I am about to tell you, exactly what happened to those people. I warn you, I am not sugar coating it.

Imagine this; anda are a 10-year old native american sitting at halaman awal with your mother, father, and sibling. It is a peaceful evening, and anda are enjoying it.
But just then, anda hear a knock on the door. Your mother goes to answer it, and a pale-faced man in black enters your house. He tells your parents that he has come to take you, and your six-year old sibling away to a residential school. Your father stands up, ready to defend his family. But the man in black abrubtly shouts that it is under the will of the government, and if anda do not go, your family will go to jail, atau be put to death. anda are scared, and anda don't know what is going to happen to you.

* * *

Sad, isn't it? that's not even the worst part. Children from the age of four were taken to local Residential schools to learn to become christian, and if they did not obey orders, they were brutally punished.

When the young children arrived at the schools, they're hair was washed with a dangerous chemical that burned your eyes to protect against lice. Then their hair was cut to a very short length. They were then dressed in uncomfortable clothes and shoes.
If during anytime at the school did anda wine, cry, atau speak in your origional language, anda were strapped with a leather whip.
For breakfast, Lunch, and makan malam anda had disgusting food that very well may have contained worms, wood chips, bugs, and anything else the teachers didn't like.

Punishments in residential schools were very harsh; most of them were being whipped, strapped, kicked, beaten, and much more. Another way of punishment was locking anda in a cold, dark room for days without food atau water. Children died of starvation, freezing, and diseases.
Many children were also sexually abused oleh the teachers and priests that worked there. Many young girls became pregnant, and sometimes their bayi were killed... In the womb atau not.

The teachers and staff also lied to make anda believe that being a native american was a bad thing; they'd call anda terrible, terrible things and beat anda just for sport. but once anda were christianized, they'd respect anda and not bully you.

The worst part is, they were allowed to do these things.
These kids have gone through hell and back in these residential schools. the last one shut down in 1998 in Saskatchewan.

The Canadian government is still trying to weasle out of the treaties so that they can take away their rights. They didn't care what they did to them, and they still don't care.
They want to stop all native american culture all together, that's why they want to get out of it.
I hope now anda understand, what happened to those strong people.
