PotterGal BB! Hubby! I completely agree with EVERYTHING you said! Only House writers as well as these 3 amazing actors would have been able to pull off such a short scene in such a meaningful, gorgeous way. The look of confusion Wilson gave House was fantastic - he finally realised the extent to which House felt for Cuddy and i found that so wonderful Cuddy's expression - yes, you're completely right. She knew what she had said had affected House in a bad way. The look she had when he walked out seemed so full of guilt and yet also a hint of confusion as well that House had - like you said - for once in his life showed his emotions so clearly. And finally House's face - only Hugh Laurie can put so much into his facial reactions. He sped through a whole rainbow arc of emotions in the span of a few seconds! Amazing. I will admit i teared up when i saw the look on his face. :'( I've said this a lot before but i have to say it again...WHAT a GORGEOUS scene..

blaukat that scene is indeed amazing. House is the only show I'm watching these days that can go WAY beyond my expectations. I really did not see that coming, and they do manage to put so much meaning into something so little. and not just in that part - on this episode I noticed House was being mean to 13 in a different way, more serious, kinda like a strict father, I don't know, he seemed more mature. And the openness in his reaction to Cuddy's news is the exact opposite: he seems surprised, lonely, like a little boy. beautiful.

Anusha OMG yes I agree with all of you. That baby shop scene was so amazing. The look on House face when Cuddy told him, omg made me wanted to cry :( and Wilson's reaction to House OH WOW!!! SO FRICKING AWESOME!!! ;)He saw how much the news affected House and it confused him. Poor Cuddy she looks so confuse at House reaction to the news. Anyway...well done BB, great article!

PotterGal Another one of the things that i find the saddest is just how happy Cuddy was when she told House..it was as though she was just BURSTING to tell him when she did. She wanted his approval, his congratulations, his happiness for her and yet she didn't get any of that and i think that's why she looked so - as you said hubby - gutted that House just walked away. ALSO - i just thought of another thing. I think there was a certain kind of symbolism in the way that Wilson and Cuddy were standing together on one side whilst House was on the other watching as the both of them broke this happy news to him. I think he's seeing the both of them moving forward in their lives and he's just TERRIFIED of being left behind alone..

oldmovie FANTASTIC ARTICLE BB!!! I HAVE DECIDED THIS IS MY FAVOURITE MOMENT IN HOUSE MD EVER! It packs so much punch into such a small moment. I completely agree with what PG has said above me and I like the theory that blaukat talked about. I wanted to add something else to this all. I very much agree with what PG says that House's look was because he suddenly realized that everyone was moving on with their lives. Wilson was getting over Amber and being able to use his dead girlfriend's name as part of a pratical joke and now Cuddy is taking on the responsibilty of becoming a parent. I think House never registered this before because everytime she tried she failed, so really it was a doomed mission and he felt safe. But now, adoption is a pretty much rock solid way of getting a kid (the writers will find some way to get rid of the baby lol) and now House realizes the fear he has had all along. He isn't needed by anyone. If Cuddy has her kid, he won't have her full attention and frankly she will be more focused on someone else and his chance and feeling needed will be gone. So yes he is terrified of being left alone. Which sort of mirrored what was happening with 13, with the whole "I feel alone".

PotterGal Okay, last one i promise. You see what i think House was thinking is not "If you're happy then i'm happy". I think it was more along the lines of something like, "If you're happy then i'm alone" and i can completely see why he wouldn't want to say that to either Cuddy or Wilson.

oldmovie This article I found on it pretty much sums up House's reactions sooooo well. "Next one is being overlooked once more. Let’s put ourselves into House’s shoes for a while. He comes into the shop. Sees Cuddy standing next to a crib with Wilson, both looking kinda cozy. He dismiss this and acts like himself, but his body language screams I-Want-Answers-Now!. He stands opposite them. Wilson and Cuddy stand next to each other … like a couple. And Cuddy delivers the news she’s going to be finally a mother. Through adoption. And House realizes a few things: a) Cuddy has involved Wilson not him; and he has a déjà vu from WYD timeline. Again, he was overlooked. And if you look at this through PI comment that House wanted Cuddy to see him in different light, then it’s a major blow to his ego. She still sees him as not worth to be a father, worst, as not worth to even be involved in her dreams about having a baby. Ouch, this must have hurt. b) Cuddy has achieved on her own something she couldn’t do earlier; what’s more this something needed his help before (a.k.a the injections ). If we take all those times Cuddy has helped House, we realize that it’s almost always Cuddy who is giving and House who is taking in their relationship. I think House sees like that and thus he kept her confidence with the injections. Finally, he was able to give something in return. And after her staying by his bedside post-bus crash, I think he was bound to feel grateful for her. Many times House has shown small hints of very deep feelings, thus I’m keen on believing he saw Cuddy’s need of his help with getting a child of her own as a way for him to give her something. And here, he realized this was taken from him. He no longer has anything to give her (in his mind of course) which leads us to next realization: c) Cuddy actually doesn’t needs him anymore (if she ever did). And she doesn’t want him. She can just move forward without him, be happy without him, and he’ll just stay, where he is, popping his Vicodin and diagnosing patients. House has always thought that if Cuddy would end up with a kid he'd somehow be a part of that. The adoption announcement has made him realize that just not the way. He realized he can actually lose her. And this scared him the most. He can lose her. He won’t be the center of her attention anymore. He won’t be able to play his mind games with her because she won’t be having time for this. Her focus, her whole attention will be solely focused on the baby. And he’s- he’s left alone. Left behind. And that scares the sh*ts out of him. There is one more thing I find amazing about House’s reaction or the disability to hide it. He was unable to masks his true feelings. This means that he can’t detach himself from all of this. The it’s so big for him that he can’t cope with it his usual way. He can’t just defect it by some snarky comment, he needs to run away and think it all over, to analyze his feelings, dealt with it all. And what this actually means for us shippers? It means his emotions are so deep, so overwhelming, that they are overflowing him. And what can cause this? There is only one emotion that comes to my mind – L.O.V.E"

blaukat OM, that's the feeling I got too - I knew 13 was going to say she felt alone before she did, 'cause like House, there's no one left to connect to. and about Cuddy's excitement and later confusion at House's reaction, well, it makes me wonder what kind of interest he's going to show on the next ep, because by then she'll be probably still expecting some kind of feedback from him. This season turns out to be a great leap from season 4, House IS DIFFERENT after all.

huddychild Great Article BB ! You really know how to read a episode =D I love House's reaction but at the same time it look so sad ! It was like when kids are playing and one its left out ! it was really sad but it just show House's true feeling for Cuddy and for what happen in her life and how much he wants to be part of it...I think =D And I also read that article that Oldmovie spoke about and it's really great too =D

rosehustle1 I think he was also shocked that he missed something so big. I mean Wilson had been gone for four months and he knew everything going on with him, but he sees Cuddy everyday and even had the P.I. follow her for a bit and he learns nothing. I also thought he was hurt that she would pick Wilson as a reference considering he was pretty much gone from the picture for a while. Instead of asking House she went out of her way to ask Wilson. This is what I think are Cuddy's reasons for this: 1. House has been a wreck for the past four months since Amber's death, Wilson leaving him, his father dying, and healing from the procedure. She didn't think he was in a good place emotionally to help her. 2. On some subconscious level she feels that she can trust Wilson to be a support in an emotional way that House isn't. I think that after House said that awful thing to her in Finding Judas and Wilson was the one to comfort her she just felt it might be safer to trust her vulnerablity to Wilson in this matter. 3. She knows he doesn't like change. He's had alot of changes the last few months and maybe she felt like he couldn't handle anymore. 4. Like Wilson, Cuddy knows how needy he can be. She may have felt that he would try to talk her out of it because his misery needs company. This kind of reminds me of a Gilmore Girls episode when Luke was moved in with his girlfriend and he told Lorelei way after the fact. She was so hurt that he didn't tell her. She said something along the lines that they must not be friends because friends share big changes with each other. I think maybe House is feeling like they were not as close as he thought they were.

kellinator WOW I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THAT EVERYONE IS SAYING. I wish I could write some long, elaborate analysis of this scene which IMO is one of the best moments on House EVER, it is just so emotionally raw and when his face when he finds out about the adoption says everything he cant(or wont) say, all his walls are down and it makes me cry just thinking about it. I think he's so hurt that she trusted Wilson with this and not him and I love how Wilson looks at him like "wtf is going on with these two?" i cannot say anything else anymore I'm just so overwhelmed

babybell Its interesting ( i do agree withe everything said before as well, but i have a new point) its interesting that house sees Cuddy trusting Wilson more than Him, but what Wilson seems to be seeing is this huge connection and this thing between them he will never get and these emotions - the look on houses face and cuddy so watching his approval - and he probably feels left out as well, like they have this relationship he is only just realizing was going on. S house thinks hes been left out and mistrusted and well... left alone, and wilson is realizing they had this relationship all along without him.

kellinator wow I love that insight into Wilson, I think he definitely picked up on their connection, and the fact that House is truly hurt Cuddy didn't come to him first. But yea I never really thought about Wilson being the one feeling left out, but it is so true, House and Cuddy have this complex, fascinating relationship that he can't even begin to understand. I dont think Wilson has ever had a relationship with anyone that rivals the complex ralationship between House and Cuddy and I think he wants that.

Especially since House was the one who knew first about Cuddy trying to have a baby, it must have been such a kick in the guts to find out she hadn't come to him with this news. Hughlaurie4ever i agree i hated how sad he was but i think that he was sad because he helped her with the implants and has trusted each other and he was the first one to know that he would expect that she would tell him but he is sad becuase he is scared that a baby will pull them apart and he now knows that he has to do something before he loses her forever poor house huddy 4eva~~~~!!!
