Let me just start off oleh saying that I always LOVED Barney and Robin, but I was really impressed when they got divorced. Not oleh the characters, but oleh the writers of the show. Usually I don't bother to look behind the curtain, but after they got divorced I started giving a little lebih credit to them. I really wanted Robin and Barney to get together, I was rooting for them the entire time. And they did. And didn't. Even so, it wasn't a breakup, it was a marriage that ended on good terms and a mutual agreement that it wasn't working. The reason that I give the writers so much respect is because everyone wins. Barney and Robin fan can get the pleasure of knowing that Barney and Robin do work well together. Robin and Ted fan get the breakup, moving them a step closer to being together. People who want Barney single win too. "Everybody wins" seems to be the theme of season 9. Looking at each character individually, there was at least closure on a lot of things, even if that closure wasn't the desired option.
For Ted and Robin: He got his soulmate, the person that he belonged with completely. Still, I think we all knew inside that he would somehow get together with Robin. The writers realized that a divorce would make absolutely no sense, considering he and Tracy are a perfect match. Having her die was the only other option. Still, Ted running to Robin the menit the funeral was over would still imply that he didn't care for Tracy, which he obviously did. And since no one's about to make another several seasons just to build up lebih anticipation between Ted and Robin, it was the best option to fast meneruskan, ke depan 6 years, an appropriate grieving time for someone he cared so deeply for. So they still got together, but it didn't make Tracy less significant as a character.
For Robin and Barney: Barney and Robin had a great run, and it was clear they were both perfect for each other, but Robin still clearly had feelings for Ted. The way that Barney and Robin ended with acceptance they couldn't be together while Robin was following her dream gave their divorce a deeper meaning to it than just "Hey I don't like anda anymore, let's not be married." With all that time and effort dedicated to Barney and Robin, it would've been really disappointing had the spark just gone away.
Barney without Robin: As Barney had learned, Robin couldn't have and didn't want kids, although it was never confirmed that he didn't either. Barney with kids is something that just didn't really occur in the audience's mind, but once he got a daughter we realized how much he could care for kids. And with Robin having no desire to raise children, it seemed she was holding him back in a way.
In conclusion, it just seems like to me that every member of the audience got something they wanted. Whether it was Ted and Robin, Barney and Robin, atau Barney without Robin, no one was left completely unsatisfied, which I'm sure is incredibly hard when menulis shows.
