shenelopefan Even though I don´t hate Harry Potter, actually I really love the series, I understand some of the points you got here. Like you said, don´t go everywhere telling that I´m mad because I love the series and you don´t, I believe that everyone has their personal opinion. 1. Yes, you´re rigth, Harry is a lucky bastard. He always find the answers, the ways and everything by the end of every book and he is the magical savior. Also, Dumbledore is the "most powerful wizard of all times" and everytime he ends up relying his own tasks into three unexperienced adolescents instead of doing things by himself. 2. I agree with you in this one as well. The character development is very poor. I remember when I read the books I was always thinking "Oh my God, Harry is so stupid" and I laugh a lot about it. (For a Harry Potter fan, I´m bad) 3. The Time Turner is very complex but I don´t really agree with you here. A Time-Turner is a special timepiece in which an Hour-Reversal Charm has been encased, for added stability. It is a device used for time travel, and it resembles an hourglass on a necklace. The number of times one turns the hourglass corresponds to the number of hours one travels back in time (although, it should be noted that the longest period that may be relived without the possibility of serious harm to the traveller or to time itself is around five hours). I´m not really sure but I think that the reason that they didn´t use the Time-Turner was because they didn´t have it. Yes, they did had it on the third film/book, but at the end of that year, they didn´t have it anymore and couldn´t get another because it was forbbiden to use it unless with permission of the Ministry of Magic. Also, somebody told me once that on the fifth film/book, when they were on the Ministry of Magic they kind of broke them all. I should check again about it. Nevertheless, it´s the biggest plot hole on the series. 4. Couples are weird, I know. On the second film, when Hermione ran crazy to hug Harry and then get embarrased to "almost" hug Ron and gave him a hand shake instead was the first time I said that it was something going on with Ron and Hermione. I mean, if she felt embarrased to hug Ron it was because she liked him. I believe they are the only couple on the series "meant" to be since the very beggining. Harry and Ginny, nope, I didn´t like it. I thought he would have been better with Luna. I don´t know why, I just feel like it. Hermione and Harry are more like a sister and brother to me. 5. No series is perfect, they all have useless things, useless characters, anyway, Quidditch really didn´t bothered me at all. 6. I disagree here only beucase "Love is the power" is like the main logo of the all series. Yes, I know it could have been better but that´s the thing, Voldemort was never supposed to win anyway, we all knew it. I liked reading your article, it was very complete so I gave you a complete answer to it. Personally I love the Harry Potter series (Yes, I´m saying it again) but I don´t think that it is the best. I know there are a lot of better books and better films out there and I know that not everyone migth enjoy Harry Potter the way I did. As shenelopefan said, I do agree that there are flaws to the series, maybe.And there might be better movies and books out there.But again, as was said, Harry Potter Books were what I grew up with.And the books, in my opinion are really good.My style of writing.J.K.Rowling kept it simple. I think one of the main reasons I liked Harry Potter is that I started reading the books without even knowing they were famous.It was just some book my mom had bought and I thought I would try reading it.So I think having no expectations made my experience much better.I had my own picture in the head.So when I started watching the films, I was happy; because characters in my head had literally come to life. I never thought about this one actually.But as far as I know, time turners are really hard to get.You need permission from the Ministry.Hermione got it on special recommendation.Even if Harry had one, how back into time should he go? ArcticWolf As LUNAFAN said, I'm not trying to start a fanwar, either. 1. I don't think Voldemort was weak; I think Harry was just very, very lucky. He didn't thwart Voldemort because he was more skilled. IMO there was a logical reason behind every time Voldemort was thwarted. For example, in the Chamber of Secrets Harry is able to destroy the memory of Riddle because he stabbed the diary with a basilisk fang. Not only do we not learn until much, [i]much[/i] later that the diary was a horcrux, but we also learn that basilisk venom is one of the few things that destroys horcruxes. Harry's stabbing the diary was not a random act that JKR thought of at the last minute just so Voldemort would be defeated (and thus prove Voldemort was weak) - it was foreshadowing for things to come later. The fact Voldemort was defeated so "easily" makes perfect sense to me because of these reasons. Another example would be at the end of the Goblet of Fire - Harry is able to escape because both his and Voldemort's wands share the same core, and Voldemort's wand is forced to regurgitate past spells. This comes up again in the Deathly Hallows, and it is the whole reason Voldemort starts searching for the Elder Wand, which essentially creates the whole plot for the last book. Like the Chamber of Secrets, this scene in the Goblet of Fire is foreshadowing for events in the far future. Again, Voldemort's defeat makes logical sense to me. You may not agree with me on these reasons, but I adore JKR's foreshadowing and I personally find these all reasons valid for explaining Voldemort being thwarted again and again. (Not to mention, as I stated earlier, that Harry is just extremely lucky, and he even stated himself in the Order of the Phoenix that him escaping from Voldemort was luck, not skill). 2. I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I find Harry Potter has a lot of character development, and I think Harry matures throughout the series and reacts differently to similar situations as he grows older. For example, Harry has a meltdown at the end of the Order of the Phoenix when Sirius is killed, but he handles Dumbledore’s death, a man he respected just as much as Sirius, much better one year later. Hermione became more lax with rules as the series progressed. Neville Longbottom is much, much braver and far more confident in the Deathly Hallows than any of the previous books. Draco Malfoy goes from your typical bully to a scared boy trying to stay alive alongside Voldemort (JKR even stated that he doesn’t raise his son to hate Muggles and Muggleborns like his own parents did and thus made family get-togethers awkward). Even the minor characters get character development – after Harry saves Dudley from the dementors in the Order of the Phoenix, Dudley begins to see Harry in a different light, and even admitted in the Deathly Hallows that he doesn’t think Harry’s a waste of space (which is a huge deal, coming from Dudley). True, if you’re thinking of Fred and George Weasley or Luna Lovegood, they don’t get much development, however IMO there are still many examples of character development from other characters. Additionally, I am baffled by your problem with Hermione being better at spells than Harry (and Ron). Do you have an issue with the main protagonist not being the “greatest” out of the group of main characters? Or perhaps is it just because Voldemort is supposed to be “weaker” than him and yet even Hermione is better at spells than Harry? If it is the former, there’s not really much I can say to you, because each character has their own traits, skills, and weaknesses and I see nothing wrong with Hermione being better at spells. If it is the latter, I direct you to point 1. 3. Eh, every series has plot holes, but I honestly think the Harry Potter series has relatively few, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. The Time-Turner one is arguably one of the “biggest” (although I don’t consider any plot hole in this series to be that big), but I don’t really care about it to be honest. I think I read somewhere that JKR said all the Time-Turners were destroyed in Order of the Phoenix, and even if you wanted to argue that they could simply make more because somebody obviously had to make the originals in the first place, I could also bring up the Butterfly Effect and how dangerous it is to go back in time and change events of the past. Not to mention the number of turns they’d have to carefully count to go back 50 years, and then of course be stuck in the past and thus change more and more history. I’ve seen ethical debates between readers in regards to the Time-Turner and the Butterfly Effect just in the [i]hypothetical[/i] situation described above. Also, as shenelopefan quoted, "although, it should be noted that the [b]longest period that may be relived without the possibility of serious harm to the traveller or to time itself is around five hours[/b]", which rules out the Time-Turner theory. 4. Again, it’s all a matter of opinion. Personally, I think the Harry and Hermione pairing would have been extremely stereotypical and I felt no chemistry between the two, but everyone’s different. I think the pairing Ron and Hermione is much cuter, and there were several hints starting way back in the Goblet of Fire that they liked each other. As for Harry and Ginny, I don’t really care that they’re together. I never really shipped any of the main characters with anyone (aside from Draco/Hermione being my guilty pleasure), so I passively accepted who got together with who. Shipping isn’t really my thing when it comes to Harry Potter (except for Drastoria), so I honestly don’t care that Character A ended up with Character B. It may be a big deal to you, but it wasn’t to me. 5. Er, your main point is “Useless Things”, plural, but then you go on to say Quidditch is the *only* useless thing for the plot, singular. Eh, whatever. Anyway, I don’t see Quidditch as useless in the series. On the contrary, I think JKR uses Quidditch to advance the plot, hence the blogger Dan Bergstein’s suggestion that we just change the Gryffindor Team’s name to Team Plot Advancement (sorry, I guess that only makes sense if you’ve read Dan Bergstein’s Blogging Harry Potter :P). Even if I believed Quidditch did nothing for the plot like you said, I still wouldn’t really care because I believe the sport expands the world JKR created and I soak in basically everything she writes about the Wizarding World. 6. Hoo boy, this is the point that we really disagree on. The message JKR was really trying to bring home throughout this series is the idea that love conquers all. Clearly you don’t share this view, but I do. This is one of my favorite aspects of the series, actually, and I think it's beautiful. I’m not going to delve deep into this one because it would spawn a whole moral debate. It’s just a difference in world views, my friend. In addition, I don’t think JKR meant that if you aren’t loved as a child, you’re doomed. I believe Voldemort had many chances to create bonds and friendships, but ultimately he [i]chose[/i] to live without love, which turned out to be his downfall, again driving home the moral that love conquers evil (which, again, I agree with).

WinterSpirit809 I agree with what the others said above. But I would like to add something to the Hermione being better than Harry at spells. Yes, she is better at charms and stuff, but Harry was better at Defense Against the Dark Arts, which you say spells are better used against enemies. Well, Defense Against the Dark Arts, is used to defend against enemies, which you said is your problem.
