Link to JKR's thoughts about Draco (and his fans): link

I plan to write an article about this soon, but I just wanted to see what others' thoughts were first. Sorry, but her comments about Draco fans seem a bit judgemental to me, as if she assumes that all people who like him (1) are condone/are blind to his actions and (2) only like him because of Tom Felton. And the way she describes her interactions with the fans ("pouring cold common sense on ardent readers' daydreams") is a bit condescending.

If the link is misbehaving for anyone else, try link.

I also think that "pouring cold common sense" is a bit condescending. She knows most of us are old people by now, right? We know link, woman.

I know Draco did some terrible things. Tom is a cool person, but I do not find him attractive. (Nor did I ever.) Draco is a fascinating character because he is complicated, and snarky, and he loves being the bad guy. (Well, at first. The whole war-death-destruction thing kinda sucked the fun out of it.) Draco Malfoy is one of the most interesting, complex characters in She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's series, and the fact that she doesn't want people to like him is kind of hilarious. (He'd probably think so too. Silly Muggle.)

Not all fans, of course, but I agree with her on the really immature ones who only like him because of Tom Felton. Because believe me, they're out there, especially on this club. All you have to do is read through the polls on this spot and you're going to find a bunch of comments that emphasize how "hot" he is and how much they like him because he's "hot" and a "bad boy" (as if) and as JKR said, "secretly had a heart of gold" like Harry, and I find it really, really irritating. They give all the other Draco fans a bad rep, and I honestly think those kinds of fans outnumber the ones who like him for more rational reasons. I don't blame JKR for that comment at all. If you only like someone in RL because they're "hot" and a "bad boy", they're not going to "change" just for you because you're convinced they're secretly Mother Theresa deep down, and you might even end up in an abusive relationship, which is the point I think Jo was trying to get across. Those kinds of fans definitely need a wake-up call.

Never a fan should be considered on the way he appreciates a universe (here HP) nor on the characters who he loves or not! I desagree with all people who make such scandalous judgement !
