Asvini picked The Sultan:
He can be a little annoying. I also think it's strange it took him the entire movie to decide to change the law so his daughter wouldn't be forced into a loveless marriage if he had the power to all along. I know there'd be no movie if he had, but they could have thrown in a good reason right at the start, like showing Jafar force him not to with the staff or something, because when we enter Jasmine's already been forced to have a bunch of these awkward meetings, said she hates the idea, and his response is 'oh well, you have no choice. It's not like I can just change the law. Except I totally could. But, you know. Whatever. Not gonna'
It makes him kind of a jerk that it took Jafar almost killing them all to think 'hmmm, maybe I shouldn't force my daugter into a miserable, loveless marriage'

I think the Sultan wanted Jasmine to marry a prince and didn't bother to change the law because he wanted a suitable man to marry his daughter. Usually princes were high class and would also bring a high image to the kingdom. He changed his law afterwards because he knew Aladdin was fit enough to have his daughter (because, come on, which king would want his daughter to end up with a street rat?)

King Triton, however, had had seven daughters, all of which were older than Ariel. If he had been through these sisters, why couldn't he handle Ariel? Surely one of the six girls rebelled once or twice when they were Ariel's age. Or perhaps, he could tell Ariel the reason why the human world was not good for a young mermaid like her (about his wife dying because of the humans? Or Sebastian point in the song Under the Sea; humans eat fishes?).

Asvini picked The Sultan:
But Jasmine told him how unhappy it would make her, so if he'd rather his daughter was miserable but married to anyone wth a good image than happy then that makes him jerky to me. Even before she met Aladdin he was forcing it on her, so he had no reason to think she'd end up with anyone unsuitable given time to choose for herself, since she'd never met a commoner in her life up till then. If he'd let her choose who and when to marry she'd never have ran away, so she wouldn't have fallen for anyone of too low status. And he was forcing it on her with a time limit, at the start of the movie she has 3 days left. It's not like he was dying and needed it to happen quickly, he was just blindly following tradition even if it meant her being unhappy the rest of her life. To me that's worse than being angry and kind of useless trying to protect a daughter you know is prone to being reckless and absent minded. But I get where you're coming from, an Triton really was useless with teenage girls for someone who'd already raised six of them :)

^ Yeah, I know. At the end of Aladdin, I was actually thinking the same thing; "Uhh, you can change the law? Why not do it earlier?", but then, looking at that fluffball, I don't think he's much of a genius (though I didn't say he was an idiot. Just didn't have a brain like Einstein's :p)

I was surprised someone picked Eudora, actually. She was a very kind and gentle mother, isn't she?

I know...I like her...she's very sweet. I love how she calls Tiana "babycakes"...that made her seem more real to me, b/c my Mama has like 8 nicknames for me :D

Asvini, I think it just took Aladdin for the Sultan to change his mind. He didn't really see what love meant to Jasmine until Aladdin.

Mermaid-Tail picked The Sultan:
Sultan, for the reasons already said. I don't dislike him, but I like him least out of these. I agree it took seeing her with Aladdin to make him realise how wrong it was to force her to marry someone she didn't love, and how important it was to her, but I think the point is, it shouldn't have taken that. It's not like she only hinted this was making her unhappy, she says to him "I hate being forced into this". He knew how unhappy the idea made her, so it shouldn't have taken what it did for him to change his mind.
And what if she hadn't met someone at that time? He'd rather she was incredibly unhappy than single for a couple more years. He had his good moments too though, like him saying in the middle of a trance to Jafar "but you're so old!" when Jafar's hypnotising him to let him marry Jasmine.

I agree with KataraLover and DreamyGal. Well he's not terrible but he needs to learn to control his temper and take control of situations properly. You don't just have a panic attack just because of a statue. You might be angry but at least not scare your daughter half to death in the process.

they just don't play a big part in the film, unlike the others. at least Eudora dances around with Tiana during 'Almost There'. you could take Aurora's parents out of the movie and no one would ever notice.
