Snow White was given poisoned food. Merida poisoned somebody with food.

Tiana looks down on people who don't work. Belle looks down on people who work.

How does Belle look down on people that work?

They would never understand each other. Snow would be dislike Merida's rebellious act. And Merida also can't stand with Snow.

@M_gann and Sparklefairy375: In her opening song she writes everybody off as boring and "provincial", rolls her eyes when the baker isn't interested in hearing about her books, bashes a man in the face by walking through a work zone (with no apology), etc... when they're working their butts off to make a living and she actually just has the freedom to walk around town and read.

^ Regardless, I never took it as her strictly not liking working people. She just doesn't like the provincial life, where you're stuck doing the same job till the day you die with no change. I think she would definitely appreciate Tiana's drive and ambition. She and her basically have the same goals, they want to get out of the boring repetitive life they have and make something of themselves. Tiana's just much more proactive and less whiney about it.

Belle would find a lot to admire in Tiana I think. On the other hand, while Belle is a kind person, I do think Tiana would get frustrated with how privileged Belle is, and how she at first doesn't seem to do much to change her life. I think she would find a lot to admire in how Belle sacrifices her life for her father, especially with how important Tiana's dad is to her. Overall, while I think they might have a few road bumps, I think they would have a very powerful friendship.

@M_gann: Belle also directly calls the townspeople "little people". That has nothing to do with how dull she thinks life in the town is.

^ "...Every day, like the one before...Every morning just the same, since the morning that we came, to this poor provincial town..." She definitely thinks it's dull. She's being extremely condescending sure, but I don't think she hates the people just because they're working.

Edit: She looks down on unambitious people. Which is assholish to be sure, but Tiana is definitely not complacent with he life she's living. That's why she works so hard to fix it.

IMO she looks down upon the townspeople because they represent a life of common, everyday toil, which she sees as unrefined; thus she transfers this idea of being unrefined from their lives to the actual people, as seen through her actions and attitude towards them.

I might edit this later as my brain feels dead and as I suspect what I just said made absolutely no sense.

^ Don't worry you're fine! Sorry, somehow I got the word hated in my head, my bad. What it comes down to is just a matter of interpretation. I see it more as her not liking complacent people, while you see it as a dislike of working people in general. And to be honest I don't think we see anything in the movie to discount either of our viewpoints. I'm gonna go with mine because I like it better though. XD

Hmm. Is this the polar opposite game? If so, Merida and Snow have zero in common. Another opposite is Tiana and Ariel ( one is adventurous and daring, the other hates adventure and wants to cook).

As for Belle and Tiana, they have some similarities, but as M_gann said, they would eventually clash over the "little stuff." Like, for example, who is the more assertive/go-getter ( Tiana clashes a little with her bestie Charlotte on this about "stars"), who is more patient about things overall, who gets things done vs. who waits around, who has life delivered on a silver platter, yada, yada-- and sure, I could see them bickering. Their in-fighting would not be as explosive as Merida and Snow's, but it would be snappish around some things, certainly.

I admit Merida and I have many differences and at times she is quick to chide me on little things, but we never let it get personal. I will never have to worry about fighting with her anyway, because she adores my gooseberry pies and apple tarts.

In that case, I will have to bake you a pie as well! Just tell me what flavor you prefer and I will be sure to send it via dove carrier. My personal preference is gooseberry pie, but a certain old woman has told me that apple pies are what make the menfolks' mouths water.
