They actually develop her personality and make her really smart and responsible. In the original she did have a personality but it was undeniably not very-well developed and in my opinion very one-dimensional. Here she has a three-dimensional personality and is more than just a plot device. But of course everyone is going to vote for the original.

I didn't enjoy Enchanted Tales, it's hard for me to enjoy her character.

I don't know, they give her a pretty dull personality in Enchanted Tales. She was a completely different character in that movie.

Keys to the Kingdom was atrocious! They reduced her to a pink-obsessed, empty-headed, immature little girl. :(

Obsessed with pink? How? Just because she wears pink and has her want make her nightgown pink? Besides, what's wrong with someone being obsessed with a color? Also empty-headed? Yeah, an empty-headed person would most definitely read papers before signing them and learns that hard-work is the best way to get through things and to never take the easy way out. Yeah, what a bimbo! Also how is she immature? She acts very responsible with running the kingdom, learning not to take the easy way out, admits she makes mistakes, learns from them, and fixes them. At the most she's mischievous but not immature. I fail to see your criticisms so care to elaborate? Also, what the hell does the song have to do with her character?

"Keys to the Kingdom" is the name of her half of Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams, for the record.

As for the rest of your comment, I'm not going to humor you this time, since you're clearly trying to pick another pointless fight and I'm not in a confrontational mood. I fail to see any merit in Keys to the Kingdom, but I shouldn't have to explain why in an annoying degree of detail. I strongly dislike the portrayal of Aurora in it and I think it does a disservice to her character's integrity. That's it, and you're not going to get any more of an explanation from me this time. Go pick fights with someone else.

What was once a dreamy interesting character with class and a soft, ethereal beauty, Keys to the Kingdom took that and made her into a stereo-typical simpering teenaged girl. She may have been "expanded" upon but it was in the most deconstructive way. Any of her previous character was derailed to make way for a basic, boring and rather, for lack of a better word, stupid PSA cartoon archetype. What one may "character development" I call character derailment.

@audreybrooke I wasn't trying to pick a fight, I was merely trying to understand your perspective because MANY times I've heard this argument from people and I ask them to explain but they just say something like "it just sucks." So pardon me for just wanting to understand better. Grow up! Whatever kind of crap you're dealing with, don't take it out on me. I was merely asking a simple question.

Oh really? I merely ask you to explain your points while pointing why I don't understand your points and you claim I'm trying to start the fight. Or are you simply trying to make something bigger than it is because you can't explain it or just to spite me because I criticize your precious Aurora? Frankly, I don't care what you think of me. I have done nothing wrong here and I have acted like the childish one before but in this case, you're the one being childish. Calling me childish and claiming I'm just trying to pick a fight when I'm really just wanting to understand your point of view is just making your look like the childish one and the one trying to start a fight. Whatever is causing you to be in such a bad mood, take it out on what's making you mad, not me because I've done nothing wrong. If I appeared rude to you, I do apologize for that but it wasn't my intention. My intention was just to understand why people hate this version of Aurora so much and to have it in great detail because the only complaints I get is that it's a sequel, she wears pink, and she has a pop voice instead of an opera voice, all of which are very weak reasons.

Wow, okay. Kataralover dude why do you seem so determined to convince everyone that the original Aurora is bland? Especially considering you don't seem to hate her. I never understood why you get into back and forths about a character you don't even feel strongly about, in either direction. Do you feel strongly about Aurora?

I'm not trying to convince people of anything. Just like how I don't want people to convince me that Ariel is a bad role model, I don't want to convince people that they're favorite princess is bad. I made this poll in hope that someone after all these years (especially since this generation of fanpop seems to be more mature) explain to me why Aurora in Enchanted Tales is so bad. Is that so bad? I constantly say when I'm criticizing Aurora that I know she has a lot of fans and MORE POWER TO THEM! I used to think she had no personality but many articles defending her changed me mind. So I just want to be able to understand better why people feel the way they do. I don't care if people like her or not. I don't want people to agree with me about everything, that's BORING! Besides, JNA1234 I could say the very same thing about you constantly talking about the new Disney Princesses and the movies about feminism, giving the middle finger to Disney, and all of that.

Fair enough, I wasn't trying to argue. I was just wondering since she seems to be a princess you neither love nor hate. Or even like or dislike.

@JNTA1234 Fair enough, sorry if I come across as rude to you or offended you. I am fairly neutral towards Aurora in the original. I mean, I don't think she's a bad character by any means, just not a fleshed out or developed one. I understand why she has her fans but I'm certainly not one of them because I don't really see very much to her like I do in Enchanted Tales where I actually do like her, though ever there I'm not crazy about her.

No offense taken dude. I'd probably deserve it. I'm sure l've offended people myself with my Brave, Merida, Frozen, Anna, Elsa rants especially considering I've probably been beating a dead horse. Recent countdown results probably don't help the situation either.

Anyway, back on topic, I guess I like the abstract...ness(?) of Aurora in the original. It probably is superficial reasons.

I think we all should take a second and calm down. Personally I find the orginal Aurora really boring and uninteresting. To me she's a very one dimensional character with no depth to her. But to each their own, if you like her that's your opinion. To me the Enchanted Tales one is much better developed and has a lot more depth. I'm just personally curious what Aurora fans love about her and why they hate the Enchanted Tales version. I'm not trying to start a fight.

@Audreybrooke I'm also curious about what's wrong with liking the color pink. My two favorite female characters, Minnie and Webby, are both pink loving girly girls and I don't think that makes them weak characters.

cruella, I never said that liking pink was a bad thing. I was merely making a comment about how they reduced Aurora's character to being obsessed with the color. "Make the trellis pink!" Her first concern upon being made a queen with magic is to change everything to pink. This is a random, useless addition to Aurora's character as far as I'm concerned, since in the original movie she showed no preference towards colors, including this apparent obsession with pink. I don't like that they simplified her character to being just a girly-girl stereotype.

Aurora in Sleeping Beauty is a layered, elegant, dreamy, sophisticated character, none of which was present in Keys to the Kingdom. I'm not going to give you any more of an explanation than that.

^exactly. wanting to expand on her already layered personality a bit is one thing and I'm fine with that, but they made her ditzy and just nothing like she is in the old movie, obviously trying to cater to little girls (which is silly- I really liked Aurora as she was as a kid but I guess they don't think most girls will?). I'm just sad that Disney clearly doesn't understand her, but what's worse is that they don't appear to even try much (though kudos to them on her official description, which I think was actually accurate).

It also just annoys me how Disney only ever does this crap with the old princesses. they would never dare try this with the super popular princesses like Ariel and Mulan, or even Jasmine or Elsa, even though they have little more screen time or development than Aurora.

I can't speak for all SB fans but I love Rose for every reason the other Audrey listed. She's enchanting to watch and as I've said dozens of times before, some of us just find her refreshing. she doesn't go off on an adventure, she doesn't fight her villain, she doesn't back-sass her elders. We don't have a ton of characters like her which makes her unique and interesting.

^ I agree one hundred percent! She is refreshing in her obvious femininity. Every movement she makes on the screen practically drips with a confident grace and assurance in her own gender. She's not trying to be someone she isn't or trying to deny her gender or in general act like the all to common place sasserific characters we are exposed to now a days.

I think its nice to have a character who doesn't just display who they are immediately. We meet Jasmine and we know what she wants and when she wants it along with all her obstacles. The same can be said for almost all of the other princesses, making Aurora more nuanced because we have to infer things about her character, not just be able to understand what we are explicitly told about her.
