I see her as Jasmine. Remember when Rachel said she doesn't want to have her fate decided FOR her at the pilot--when she ran away from her wedding with Barry?? That's SUCH a Jasmine moment--the way Jasmine doesn't want to be forced into a marriage with Prince Achmed or any other arrogant suitor. Rachel was also the daughter of the wealthy Dr Green, the way Jasmine was daughter of a Sultan. Dr Green has a chateau of his own. Go figure.
Rachel's from a wealthy family. Ross is middle-class. Rachel is more naive and sheltered about the real world at first---like Princess Jasmine was. Ross Geller had Marcel the monkey...That pretty much sold him as Aladdin. Rachel would be his Princess Jasmine--and he always saw Rachel as being completely out of his league, the way Aladdin viewed Jasmine.
