I did this because I am getting tired of hearing how Triton and Ariel were horrible Parents...Well seeing as how they were trying to raise pig-headed spoiled children I think they did an okay job...yeah they overreacted a bit and were a little overprotective, but what they should have done was diciplined thier children more and not coddled them so much...Melody and Ariel got away with alot of sass mouth and were totally out of control....they were constantly breaking the rules and not learning the consequences of thier actions (they kept doing the same things over and over)...What triton and Ariel did as Parents was out of Love...What Ariel and Melody did as Kids they did out of selfshiness...And sorry Ariel but Fathers on Land DO reprimand thier daughters...especially if they deserve it....I am not saying Ariel and Melody are horrible kids...they were just being normal, selfish teen girls who think the world resolves around them and that Adults are stupid and do things just to hold them back...blah blah blah...(Not all teen girls are like this, but ALOT are)
Triton and Ariel were loving Parents but too soft when it came to certain things and then came down way to hard when they had enough....

@SweetPea2007 You have got to be joking! You've obviously never watched The Little Mermaid 2. Spoiled? Ok , I'm gonna tell you something ok?. Melody, was lied to her WHOLE life, was humiliated in front of everybody, made fun because people thought she was weird, and BESIDES she had a reason for wanting to be in the sea! She's a half mermaid! Out of selfishness???? She wanted to find herself! Find out why she had an obsession with the sea! Why the locket had her name on it! Ariel never explained ANYTHING to Melody! It's Ariel's fault Melody had to break the rules! Please, before you say anything you should watch the movie first.

Ariel on the other hand, yes she was spoiled! She had EVERYTHING! Friends, a family who loved her! Melody was an only child, had no friends (besides Sebastion and sort of Scuttle, but they were more her guardians), couldn't talk to her mother about what she really wanted (which if you ever watched the movie, you would know), and Eric, well, he spoke to her at least like twice in the whole movie. So yeah, spoiled? I don't think so. So, yeah Ariel was a horrible mother. Lied to Melody instead of telling the truth, which would've helped Melody a lot, she wouldn't be so confused as to why she talked to fish and loved the sea so much. Triton was a good father. He had a reason to not allow Ariel to go to land. And he told her why. Humans are dangerous, and besides Ariel's mother was killed by humans. He was just trying to protect Ariel. And yet, she left her family behind for a guy. And in the second movie, she completely isolated herself from her family. Ariel was trying to protect Melody but her methods were completely wrong! Building a wall? Really?

Oh and BTW! Melody saved the day in the end. And also, if you watched the movie, sure she went to the sea when her mother told her not to (but once again she had her reasons) but she didn't miss the party (in which she was humiliated) or anything. Nothing bad happened for Ariel to completely lose her temper and the worse is, that she didn't even explain why she was so mad.

I agree with SweetPea2007 as well but I really think that Ariel was even worse to her father than Melody was to Ariel. You're right they repeatedly broke the rules but with Melody when she asked her parents why she couldn't go near the ocean she probably just got a "it's dangerous" answer without really getting a proper explanation on why it was so being a naive and curious child she went in to see if it was that bad or not or something like that. But Ariel knew how dangerous it was for a mermaid to be on the surface, especially after what happened to her mother and should have understood Triton's fear about going to the surface. And her saying that humans aren't "barbarians" is almost laughable since she was even scared of the pirates when she was a little girl in the third movie and she knows that humans eat fish (her FRIENDS) and yet she still wants to be one of them and thinks they're okay to be friends with

For heavens sake, she knew that by signing the contract with Ursula, whom SHE KNEW was a sea witch, that she would never see her father, friends, sisters, or any of the other merpeople and seacreatures again. I basically agree with what Ribon85 said, she had everything underwater for her and she just gave it all up without regard to how anyone else felt in order to be with Eric. For all she could've known, Eric could've wound up as a Gaston. I love Ariel yes, but this part of Ariel keeps her at my 6th Favorite Princess-- without this spoiledness, she might be my third or even second favorite princess. Other princesses fell in love at first sight, yes, but they didn't hurt anybody in the process of doing so. She's far more spoiled than Melody for the reasons Ribon85 said, and she's way, way more spoiled than Jasmine-- Jasmine was trapped at her palace and always had arrogant suitors coming ant treated her like an object by them.

Melody didn't understand why the sea might be dangerous for her, while Ariel knew that she shouldn't get involved with the sea witch and had been warned about the dangers of the human world.

Ribon95 I have seen the movie and it sucked....The Villain sucked and so did Melody and the extra characters....Yes Ariel made mistakes with her daughter....1. She should not have left her in the care of Sebastian (he should not be taking care of kids). 2. Instead of pushing Melody into social situations she should have eased her into it or accepted her daughter was an odd loner and a very awkard child. 3. She should not have lied, but instead told her the truth and thought of a better way to protect her (maybe even hunted down Morgana and gotten rid of her) 4. She should have been more open with her and shown her some respect and not automatically assumed Melody would be a selfish hot headed brat like herself. 4. and Ariel should have admited her own Mistakes to Melody so that she would understand everything was being done out of love and concern....

I still find Melody annoying and wish the sequel had never been made....

oh and Ribon95 I understand we are coming at this from two different directions...you are a young 16 yr old girl who has never had children and I am a 31 yr old woman with three daughters....You might see things differently when you become a mother...I saw things differently when I was a child too....how about we agree to disagree and go on...yes?

I'm sorry if I sound rude SweetPea2007, but Ariel never had Sebastian watch Melody, Triton did. I don't think Ariel even knew Sebastian was watching over Melody until after Melody ran away and he was all "Melody's gone! Melody's gone! Melody's gone! Melody's gone!"

oh...well then Ariel really had no idea what her daughter was doing or who she was talking to...and that does make her a irresponsible parent...oh okay...I will admit it Triton was a much better Parent then Ariel...She had no idea her kid was sneaking out and talking to crabs....Ariel had nothing else to do so she really was being a bad mom by not paying attention to her daughters whereabouts...a good parent would have kept her in the castle and eye on her at all times and been paying attention to who she was hanging around with and what she was doing at all times....King triton was a King and had Kingdom to run, but Ariel was just Erics wife so she had free time...but I wonder what she was doing when not watching her kid? Hm I see your point now guys...if Ariel would have kept a closer eye on Melody and been there to keep an eye on her she might nt have gotten into so much trouble and put herself in danger...
