Damon's relationship with Katherine is even less clear than his relationship with Elena. It seems that he only seduced her in the first place to take her away from Stefan out of spite for his little brother, but certainly it turned into lebih than that later. The nature of that "what," however, is also hotly debated among fans. Some theorize that Damon was only really interested in Katherine personally because of the vampire power she held, and what she could do for him, while others theorize that he really did care for her in the end. There seems to be evidence in the buku that could be interpreted either way. When Katherine lets it be known that she picked both brothers, and fed on both of them the sebelumnya night, Damon gets extremely angry - something Stefan notes is extremely out of character for Damon. We cannot know, however, whether this was a betrayed jantung atau a bruised ego speaking - Damon could simply be upset that he didn't win Katherine over completely. It could also be concern for his brother Stefan, as a few fan have theorized, because Damon then goes into a diatribe about how Stefan couldn't possibly handle the darkness of being a vampire (something he may be quite correct about in the end).
Then there is the fact that Damon seemed to spend little atau no time mourning Katherine that we know of, while he does seem to mourn Elena's passing in his own way; then again, we don't know anything about Damon's daily life immediately after he became a vampire, so it could be that he mourned in private. On the other hand, when Katherine gives him another chance to be with her at the end of book 3, Damon classically - and stingingly - turns her down. Is this because he's already in cinta with Elena? Because he won't gabung someone who's about to kill his little brother? atau simply because he likes being in control, and submissive acceptance isn't in his nature? fan have theorized all of these possibilities.
Whatever the case may be, it's clear that Damon was very interested in Katherine, though fan will probably never know if it was cinta atau lust for power that created this interest.
Matt Honeycutt
Damon's relationship with Matt is interesting in that, aside from Stefan, Matt is the only other male character present in the buku that isn't on the opposing side. Matt is also the only one who stands up to Damon and calls him on his behavior in a direct, human way (Dark Reunion). Damon seems to develop a guarded respect for Matt after this confrontation, perhaps admiring the courage it took to stand up to someone like Damon. Although Matt and Damon don't communicate much before atau after their confrontation, they seem to have an uneasy relationship of acquaintance going oleh the end of Dark Reunion.
