I love Johnny Depp, but he was just weird (in a bad way) in this movie. Wilder is superb in this role and always.

The Depp version is a more complete character, but he can only reinterprit the original.

The new Willy Wonka was just... scary.

I think that Willie Wonka being scary is appropriate to the book, but I still prefer Gene Wilder's performance.

This one was hard. I like the remake better cause it was closer to the actual book but Gene Wilder warms my heart. He's pretty much the only thing about the original that I actually like.

In charlie and the chocolate factory there is no singing...i like that. The singing in the original was.......kind of weird. Plus i like Johnny Depp in it!!

I thought the greatness of the original movie is that you really don't get into deep character and thats what made it so great. The remake was okay and cute, but gene wilder singing, pure genius.

Dahl didn't like it, but I think it was magical and twisted, just like him. And the Oompa Loompas are wayyyyyy better in this movie.

I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, but the remake was just...weird, and not in a good way. Mr. Depp seemed...well, I don't know, like a John Wayne Gacy-type clown, that's not really funny to begin with (we all know there's nothing funny about clowns), but who could go from regular creepy-clownness to pedophiliac cannibalism. Wow, that was way too in depth! Besides, the original had all those fantastic song-and-dance numbers (Pure Imagination, HELLO?!)! Plus, I just love Gene. So definitely Gene/the original.

To me, Gene Wilder will ALWAYS be the original Willy Wonka. Im sorry, I know imma get a lot of negativity for saying this, but the remake SUCKED.

No one can replace Gene. The scene of him walking out with a cane, losing it, and rolling into a dramatic pose is unbeatable.

Plus Depp gave off an aura that screamed 'pedophile'.

Why can't they just leave the classics alone for once!? The originals are always better. I didn't like the remake at all, I thought that Johnny Depp was just creepy in that movie. It basically ruined the whole Wonka experience for me.

The original is a ton better than the new one. The new one was ok but not as funny. Johnny Depp is not as funny as Gene Wilder.

I can't pick a favorite from between the two. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp are both excellent actors. I love both of their portrayals although neither were really like the Willy Wonka from the book. Nope, can't choose.

Johnny Depp is a fantastic actor, he's one of the best in my opinion. But I really did not like his portrayal of Willy Wonka, he acted it excellently, but I just didn't like his portrayal. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was loads better, even though I personally prefer Johnny Depp in general.

I love Johnny Depp. He is so awesome. He is the best Willy Wonka. Directed by Tim Burton. I love that "Small World" parody that appears at the chocolate factory entrance. If you may not know. Small World is an attraction at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, USA.

I'm much more for the Gene Wilder movie as the musics what I love Johnny Depp needed that in his movie like Sweeney Todd otherwise there would never have been a movie!
