Brad Pitt\'s Movie Producers Speak Out to Support Him: \'He\'s in a Very Difficult Situation\' as He Skips Premiere

The producers behind Brad Pitt\'s upcoming documentary

are speaking out in support of the actor\'s decision to skip the premiere of the film amid his ongoing divorce from Angelina Jolie.

"I can understand Brad in many ways. Right now he\'s in a very difficult situation personally," producer Sophokles Tasioulis told reporters on the red carpet at the premiere on Wednesday. "We want people to come here for the movie, not for what is going on behind the scenes and Brad\'s personal life. I think it was a good decision by him and we all respect his privacy."

Pitt, who serves as the narrator of the documentary, skipped Wednesday\'s screening so he could remain focused on his family, following his split from Jolie.

"I\'m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I\'m currently focused on my family situation and don\'t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see."

Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, in a Los Angeles court Sept. 19, stating that she separated from the

star on Sept. 15 – just one day after the couple and son Maddox, 15, were involved in an alleged altercation aboard their private plane.

The actress has requested sole physical custody of their six children: Maddox, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
