Marine is a character that gets a lot of hate. For those of you wondering, Marine the Raccoon was a supporting character from Sonic Rush Adventure who speaks in an exaggerated Australian accent. She has been tagged with such terms as "annoying", "useless", and has even been called a Tanooki Suit ripoff based on her design. Personally, I do not agree with the detractors. I was actually mildly amused by Marine's antics during Sonic Rush Adventure. She even got a small bit of character development over the game's story as she matured from being a wannabe adventurer and team leader, to a slightly more refined character. She gets kidnapped much in the same manner that Cream did in Sonic Rush, but has her moment of shining glory where she snags the Jeweled Scepter from the pirates. Marine is to Blaze as Tails is to Sonic, which is ironic since Blaze was initially disapproving of Marine's antics and even went so far as to call her a nuisance. Marine was also revealed to possess an unknown power of extraordinary proportions. Unfortunately, so far, Sonic Rush Adventure has been Marine's only appearance in the games, and her character has not had the opportunity to be fleshed out. If she were given another chance in the spotlight, I imagine she could become a much better, if not exceptional character, worthy of being Blaze's sidekick in the manner that Tails is Sonic's closest associate. Similar to how Tails builds aircraft, Marine builds seafaring vessels, although unlike Tails, she is still a novice. The power she showcased at the end of Sonic Rush Adventure could become a defining characteristic of hers much like Tails' flying ability. If all this were to come to light, she could become a very formidable partner-in-combat for Blaze.
