How would Garth know what Kate looked like?

Garth had never seen Kate before the moonlight howl and vice versa. So how would he know who to look for? Kate and Lilly's response is somewhat normal, but he wouldn't know who she was until she introduced herself.

The problem with that is that sometimes descriptions don't always work.
